History & Background

The HP 50g is the last RPL (Reverse Polish Lisp) graphing calculator made by HP. Out of all the calculators I own, I consider this one to be the most powerful and most capable.

Like its predecessors in the 49 line and earlier 28 line, it has a CAS (Computer Algebra System) built in, which means it can solve equations symbolically (a capability shared with the competitors of its class, the TI-89 Titanium/Voyage 200 and the Casio Classpad 300).

But there are two things that make it rather unique in that class. First, in true HP fashion, the 50g features full RPN (Although it isn't default.) But the second thing - and you're gonna love this:

HP 50g with SD card

IT HAS A SLOT FOR AN SD CARD! WHAT!?

Granted, it has a max size of 2gb and only supports FAT16, but still...

The linking program for the 49/50 series is so old an barely works. But you don't need it! Just slot the card and away you go!

...Anyways, you'll probably notice that the 50g has a lot of features (these included) that make it ineligible for use on most standardized tests. But that's okay. This is a calculator for engineers, scientists, and whatnot, meaning that there's so much software! I mean, just look at hpcalc.org! There's so much stuff for the 4X/50 series!

All that to say that the 50g is probably one of the greatest calculators of all time (for RPN users at least).
